Easy & Tasty Valentine’s Day Dessert

This is a repost from last year. However, these are so tasty, easy, and cute that I wanted to share them again.

Looking for a fun, easy, and tasty Valentine’s Day dessert? Than look no further than this recipe for Molten Chocolate Cakes. My girls and I made them last week as trial run for Valentine’s Day and they turned out great. Plus they were VERY tasty.

The recipe is from the Everyday Food: Great Food Fast cookbook. I absolutely love this cookbook and can not say enough good things about it. I love that is has simple ingredients and most recipes are not too difficult to prepare.  I have made so many recipes from this cookbook and they all have been very tasty and not too difficult to make. I did make a few simple tweaks to the recipe to make it even easier.

  • Preheat the Oven to 400 F.  The cookbook calls for you to butter the muffin tins and dust with granualated sugar. Instead of doing this, we just sprayed the muffin tins with Pam Baking. My mom turned me on to this fabulous product. It is great for all your baking needs and nothing sticks. It is really amazing. The cakes just popped out of the muffin tin after baking.

  • Cream 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (at room temperature) and 1/3 cup granulated sugar with electric mixer until fluffy.

  • Add 3 large eggs. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. With the mixer at a low speed add 1/3 up all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt until just combined. Beat in 8 ounces of melted bittersweet chocolate (do not overmix). Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups. Try to get the batter as smooth as possible on the top. It would have been easier for me to make the hearts later if I had smoothed out the batter a bit more. I’m obviously not Martha.

  • Place the muffin tin on a baking sheet; bake just until the tops of the cakes no longer jiggle when the pan is lightly shaken. This is about 12-14 minutes. Remove from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes.

  • To serve, turn out the cakes and place on serving plates with top sides up. I used a heart cookie cutter to get the shape in order to dust with confectioner’s sugar. I then added strawberries and Reddi Wip to make the whole plate even more special.

The sweet strawberries and whipped cream melt in your mouth with the cakes.  This dessert got a big thumbs up from everyone in my family. Hope you enjoy this recipe and it brings a little sweetness to your Valentine’s Day.

How great is that!

It is easy to find just the project you want to support. The Donors Choose website lets you filter on the things that matter most to you. Here are a few ideas.

Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations Sausage Pasta Meal #GourmetCreations

I was chosen for a project to highlight cooking with the New Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creation Sausage. The sausage comes in four great flavors; Beef and Bacon with Monterey Jack cheese, Chicken Apple with Gouda cheese, Sweet Italian with Peppers and Mozzarella cheese and Beef and Jalapeno with Monterey Jack cheese.

The sausage I chose is Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations Beef & Bacon Sausage with Monterey Jack Cheese. I figured everything is better with bacon right?  I love that it contains NO artificial colors, NO artificial flavors and NO by-products.

I am always on the lookout for quick flavorful meals that my family will love. We often have grilled sausage but I thought I would try a pasta sausage meal to change things up. Click here to see my shopping trip and how I made the recipe.

I decided to use some of the products I had on hand. Here is the recipe I put together.

Beef and Bacon Sausage Pasta

Ingredients

1 package Beef and Bacon Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations Sausage
3/4 pound pasta
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 small onion chopped
4 cloves garlic minced (I use the frozen crushed garlic from Trader Joe)
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
1 tsp dried basil
1 cup chopped baby spinach
1/2 grated parmesan cheese

Directions

  • Bring a large pot of lightly water to bowl. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes.

  • Sliced sausage.  In a large skillet, heat oil and sausage until slightly browned.

  • Add onion and garlic to the skillet.  Once onions are slighly brown add tomotoes with liquid and basil. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes.

  • Add chopped spinach. Cover and simmer on reduced heat until spinach is slightly tender.

  • Add pasta to bowl and top with sausage sauce. Sprinkle with cheese and serve immediately. Enjoy!

This meal is perfect for a special occasion or just a weeknight family meal! My family really liked the sausage and we look forward to trying the other flavors.

Happy Halloween From The Bargain Shopper Family

So we are pretty excited about Halloween here at the Bargain Shopper Family. I happened to hit Target last year when costumes were marked down 90% off after Halloween. I found this great Alice in Wonderland costume and a White Rabbit Dog costume. The total for both costumes was less than $8!!! This was cause for family theme this year.  Once the girls found out they could coordinate with the dog, they were in!

I did have to pick up a Queen of Hearts costume for my oldest daughter. I bought it at Target online with a $5 off $50 Target.com coupon. It didn’t cost $50 but I threw in a few shirts for myself and then I got the $5 off and FREE shipping. I consider this a win since I got some cute shirts which were an additional 20% off and I didn’t have to fight the crowds to get the costume.

The dog isn’t all that excited about the costume but with a little bribery she even posed for pictures. In the picture above you can even see her pocket watch. Love that!

So do you have a family Halloween theme this year?  Does your family pet get their own costume? Let me know in the comments….

I am linking up with

Hope you all have a very Happy Halloween!!!!

Cheap Sally Dance Party Recap #BlogHer11

You might remember me packing for the Cheap Sally Party at BlogHer 2011. My excitement then could not match how great the party turned out to be.  It was so wonderful to meet all the other Cheap Sally ambassadors. Here we all are having a bit of fun before the party started.

We got there a little early so we could talk and mingle with everyone as they arrived.  I loved getting a chance to talk to so many interesting bloggers. Since it was at dinner time,  the party had great food.  The sliders were perhaps the best I have ever tasted in my whole life.  Everyone kept telling me how happy they were that there was real food at this party. After people ate, most people headed up to the brand cabanas on the rooftop. It was a great chance for everyone to connect in a fun social setting.

Some of the amazing brands at the party included  Smarties, SearsStyle, Gordon Ramsay Everyday, ViX Swimwear, Lifetime Moms, Kmart, Big Fuel and udi’s Gluten Free Foods.

Update on Probiotics – #digestivehealth

members mark probiotics

Yesterday, I  told you that I started taking Member’s Mark 4X Probiotics.  I have only been taking them for a little under a week and so far I don’t  notice a difference.  I know that isn’t much time so I plan to continue to take them.  I believe that I may need a little more time to see results…. or I am just cursed to deal with digestive issues.

I do like that they are packaged with the day of the week on each pill. I often forget whether I have taken a pill or vitamin and this is super handy.

If you want to try this product out for yourself, Member’s Mark 4x Probiotic is sold at Sam’s Club for $28.88. for a 3 month supply.

I am going to keep taking the probiotics and I will let you know in a few weeks if there has been any different results.

Do you use probiotics?  Do you like them?  What kind of results have you seen? I would love it if you left a comment with your experience.

Trying Out Probiotics – #DigestiveHealth

 members mark probiotics

Some of you may know that I have Crohn’s Disease.  It is one of those things that drives me nuts because there is so little I can do to control it. I tend to have flare ups on a occasional basis and when that happens life is pretty bad. Even when I am not having a flare up, I often feel bloated.

I have heard that probiotics might be helpful in controlling my symptoms. That is why I was excited to try out Member’s Mark Probiotics. They can be purchased at Sam’s Club.

Simply put, probiotics are bacteria that help maintain a healthy digestive system. Probiotics contribute to a healthy microflora and support immune system function.  Many times probiotics are in yogurt. I am not a huge yogurt fan so I was glad to try probiotics in a different form.

happy tummy probiatics

I have been taking the pills since Monday when I got back from BlogHer. I didn’t eat or drink normally during that time so I didn’t want that to impact my results. Come back tomorrow and see my results and whether I now have a Happy Tummy.
