No Spread Sugar Cookie and Perfect Icing Recipe, Plus Tips for Cookie Decorating with Kids

No Spread Sugar Cookies and Perfect Icing

A friend gave me this sugar cookie and icing recipe a few years back when I mentioned that I was having a group of kids over for a cookie decorating party. I wanted cookies that would taste great, hold their shape, be firm enough to decorate, yet still soft enough to eat. I have been using this recipe for several years and it is my favorite. I have hosted cookie decorating parties at Christmastime for the last 5 years and I have been asked for this recipe over and over and so I thought I would share it here. I also am including a few tips below if you are having a cookie decorating party for kids or if you are decorating at home with kids. [Read more...]

Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe! Healthy Comfort Food for the New Year

Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup

Several years back, one of my girlfriends gave me a great recipe for chicken tortilla soup that she got from a really nice fireman. I love that recipe, but it involves roasting several different types of peppers and tomatoes and putting them in the blender with various fresh herbs. While I love cooking with all of those fun, yummy ingredients, I don’t usually have the time to do all of that during the week with the kids’ homework and activities, plus the ingredients can be hard to hunt down and can get rather pricey. Dreamy Orange Cocktail Drink Recipe with Cake Vodka

I first found the recipe for this easy, three-ingredient vodka drink at a birthday party for one of my girlfriends. There were about 30 ladies at the party, having drinks, wine and appetizers to celebrate. Everyone was buzzing about how fabulous this drink was and so I had to try it out of curiosity! I loved it and I had to ask for the recipe. The flavor reminds me of those Orange Julius drinks that I used to get at the mall when I was a kid. The main ingredient is cake-flavored vodka and it really gives this cocktail a unique flavor. It’s sweet, but not too sweet since orange juice is naturally tangy. You can serve it in a martini glass to make it pretty or just a low-ball glass for an everyday cocktail. [Read more...]

Bake Your Own Artisan Bread in Just Five Minutes a Day

Have you ever found yourself in the bakery section of the grocery store, trying to decide between the $2 French bread and the $5 artisan bread? I love the taste of the $5 bread with the fancy Italian name, but really the $2 bread is the one that is in my budget to serve with my family’s dinner that night. Even if we only had the fancy bread one night a week, that’s $20 out of our monthly grocery budget, just on bread. What if I told you that you could easily make artisan bread for less than $1 a loaf?
